Jesus self-sacrificial love has won peace for us. We are to practice that quality of love every day and lay down our lives for the sake of others just as Jesus did.
We can look forward with hope and confidence that God is in control, Satan is bound and his end is certain - all evil will be destroyed. Our actions motivated by faith have eternal significance.
We are in the final part of the book of Revelation that unfolds The Day of Lord a climactic and final judgment from which God rescues his people. In Revelation 17 we have heard final judgment decreed for all evil. Revelation 18 continues that scene with the series of laments over the fall of Babylon.
Johns gospel is carefully written such that what, at first, appears to be simple narrative, is actually profound and transformative. This is the week of Easter, where we have opportunity to reflect on Jesus death and resurrection.
