John's testimony calls us to prepare for Lord's return - it is good and right that we prepare ourselves with true repentance. Forgiveness is ours. God has done all that is necessary to wipe away all our sin. Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
In this final chapter of Hosea we are forced to contemplate Israel's predicament, God's character and his incredible offer of forgiveness. His love and justice are right for all those who walk in His ways and yet a stumbling block to those who reject His mercy.
We are reminded in this parable that as God forgives us, we as Christians should forgive others. Forgiveness must be genuine and modelled on the way that God has forgiven us. When the Lord Jesus taught his disciples this prayer, he expected them to pray it - he gave them these fixed words to pray. This prayer is to shape all prayers, because in the Lord's Prayer we have the permanent shape of Christianity.
